The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, made an institutional visit this morning to the City of Vilar de Barrio, where he met with the mayor of the municipality, Manuel Conde, to address the concerns and needs of this town hall of rural Ourense, to know its current situation and the strategic projects for the future.
Subdelegate and councilor reviewed the investments that the Government of the State is allocating to Villar de Barrio, such as the more than 650,000 euros dedicated to the project of renovation of infrastructures of sanitation and purification of the nucleus of Arnuide, with the objective of facing “a recurrent problem in Villar de Barrio since years ago,” explained Eladio Santos.
At the meeting they also commented on the works of improvement in energy efficiency and lighting that will be carried out, with a state contribution of 73,450 euros, in the search of reducing consumption and generating savings for municipal accounts; as well as the specific financing within the State Pact against Gender Violence with which Villar de Barrio counts.
Regarding social services, the mayor conveyed to him the difficulties they face in offering, for example, help at home. “Small municipalities like this one have to provide many services that they are not able to finance, such as the home help service, in relation to which, in many cases, the autonomous government is not fulfilling its role,” said the deputy delegate.
In addition, they deepened a project that is under way in the municipality, included in a program of the Ministry of Ecological Transition and financed with Next Generation funds, which aims to revitalize the rural through tourism management and forest and livestock resources; which is in the process of analysis to meet the precise criteria for the granting of the corresponding aid.
In this same vein, they also commented on the importance of agriculture and extensive livestock farming. “Villar de Barrio is very much in contact with areas of the Central Massif of Maceda and Montevertio, and shares with them this type of livestock farms for meat; at the same time it shares with A Limia its tradition in the production of potatoes,” said Santos. In fact, Manuel Conde took the opportunity to invite the subdelegate to the next Feast of exaltation of the potato, which will be held on October 12 and 13.
