The Ministry of Culture awards the restoration works of the roof of the former convent of Sano Francisco

The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, informed today that the Ministry of Culture has just awarded the restoration works of the roof of the former convent of Sano Francisco, which will be the new headquarters of the Provincial Archive of Pontevedra, to the Viguese company Oreco Balgon. The deputy delegate stressed that, with this award, “the Government of Pedro Sánchez once again demonstrates its commitment to the city of Pontevedra and to the projects that other executives left in a drawer.”
The action, which has a cost of 582,626.95 euros and an execution period of six months, is forced by the detachment of tiles that occurred on the roof in 2021 and seeks to carry out a series of emergency interventions that prevent the fall of new tiles as well as water leaks that may cause the deterioration of the property.
The work is part of the set of tenders that the Government has in place and that exceeds 1.5 million euros to be able to rehabilitate the convent of Sano Francisco and turn it into the new headquarters of the Provincial Historical Archive. Thus, the direction of these works of repair of the roof had already been assigned to the studio of the architect César Portela last July and the award of the drafting and direction of the project of rehabilitation of the building for its conversion in the new headquarters of the Provincial Historical Archive to the prestigious architectural studio of Madrid Aybar Mateos is being finalized.
The subdelegate stressed that “this process allows progress in a fundamental project for the Provincial Historical Archive, which currently does not have enough space to house its funds, as well as recover a key patrimonial element of this city for all Pontevedra and Pontevedra” and recalled that it corroborates “the brave and determined commitment of this Executive for the municipality of Pontevedra and its province”.
