The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, was interested in the project of the Concello de A Pobra do Caramiñal to add value and take full potential to the Tower of Xunqueiras. It is an icon of the Barbanza region that is in an excellent state of conservation and that the Concello de la Pobra wants to make available to its neighbors, with the collaboration of the Government of Spain, through its purchase. This was transferred by the mayor of La Pobra, José Carlos Vidal, and the second deputy mayor, Patricia Lojo, to Pedro Blanco, who was accompanied by the deputy delegate in A Coruña, María Rivas, in a meeting in the Government Delegation.
Pedro Blanco undertook to transfer to the Ministry of Culture the plans of the Concello, which go through the financing of the purchase of the construction and the subsequent provision of the Concello, in view of a future cultural management of the building. “It is an initiative capable of connecting the Barbanzanos and Barbanzanas with one of their most important constructions, witness of all its history and jewel of Galician architecture,” said the delegate, who appealed to the Government’s municipalist commitment shown in works like this.
In this sense, Pedro Blanco highlighted the work that the Government is carrying out in the defense of the Galician heritage, to which more than 150 million euros are destined. The Government focuses its action on the recovery and correct conservation of the heritage, with special interest in historical Paradores and Cultural Interest Assets (BIC) in general.
Xunqueiras Tower Project
The tower of Xunqueiras is one of the most unique buildings in the history of the Barbanza region. It houses one of the most important art collections in the area, a garden presided over by its 15th century tower and halls where meetings and conversations of the most important characters of all times took place, from those of the Galician Middle Ages and their noble families to those of the first years of the 20th century, starring Ramón María del Valle-Inclán or Victoriano García Martí.
The Concello de la Pobra hopes to combine in the Tower of Xunqueiras a center of interpretation of the territory, a creative residence, a vegetable garden for the recovery of regional varieties and a cultural laboratory focused on our values of dialogue between arts and sciences. All this with the Renaissance as the guiding thread, a time of splendor and progress that the Concello de la Pobra, at the hand of the Government, wants to make available to its citizens.
