Pontevedra, September 26, 2024.- The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, received today the secretary of organization of Unións Agrarias, Javier López, and his provincial coordinator, Javier Iglesias, to address the situation derived from Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHE) in the province.
During the meeting, the subdelegate of the Government regretted that the Xunta de Galicia has already admitted that it is going to stay at 2.6 million euros and, therefore, it will not equal the more than 2.8 million euros that the Government of Spain is going to transfer to the autonomous entity to help alleviate the damages in the livestock sector. “Tralo Consello de la Xunta on Monday disseminated information of a propaganda nature that raises to a total of 5.4 million the aid in Galicia, but that hides that the majority corresponds to the state funds,” says Losada.
The subdelegate explained to Agricultural Unions that the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries distributes 15 million euros among the autonomous communities affected by the EHE and that it is the governments of the communities that are responsible for convening and distributing the aid financed by the Ministry. Galicia, which will have a contribution of more than 2.8 million euros from the State, is the second one that receives the most, only below the 4 million euros of Castilla-León being the most affected by the plague.
During the meeting with the union, the subdelegate also undertook to transfer to the Ministry of Agriculture at the request of Agricultural Unions to include the EHE within the coverage plan of the combined insurance of the National Agricultural Insurance Company, ENESA. Agricultural Unions stressed that “the EHE is here to stay, so until there is a total immunization of the bovine herd it is necessary that this matter is foreseen.”
On the other hand, in view of the news that emerged in relation to an alleged fraud in the aid of the CAP in Galicia, the heads of Agricultural Unions and Abel Losada agreed that “you are fraud can be real in other communities with large agrarian extensions, but it is totally marginal in ours”. They also recalled that, in any case, who is responsible for controlling the use of resembling them as crops, and therefore, who must avoid fraud with the CAP is the Galician Agrarian Guarantee Fund (FOGGA), that is, an organ dependent on the Ministry of Rural Environment.
