A Cañiza, September 19, 2024.- Abel Losada visited today the City Council of A Cañiza, which leads one of the two subsidies that the province of Pontevedra comes from obtaining in the second call of the PERTE of water for digitalization of municipal hydrological services. In particular, the municipality managed to attract a contribution of 4,811,115 euros as the project in which it participated was among the best scores in all of Spain.
The project, led by the City of A Cañiza, will allow the complete digitization of the water cycle in the capital of La Paradanta, but also in the municipalities of Mondariz, Mondariz-Balneario and the Ourensanos of O Carballiño, Maside and Melón.
On the occasion of this government contribution, Abel Losada held a meeting with the mayor, #Luís Piña, and highlighted his leadership capacity to carry out this ambitious project. The deputy delegate applauded the courage of the mayor, “who faced with the refusal of the Xunta de Galicia to sign with this city council an agreement similar to those he has signed with others in hydraulic matters, knew how to seek funding in other Administrations. And he did it by competing with him, despite the complicated economic situation he found when the Mayor’s Office arrived.”
Abel Losada celebrated the 12.6 million euros granted by the Government to the municipalities of the province of Pontevedra in the two calls of the PERTE del agua, of which more than 9.5 million euros correspond to the second call, which comes from benefiting the group of municipalities led by Cañiza and the Rubio consortium. The contribution that comes from obtaining the Consorcio del Rubio (O Porriño, Mos, Salceda and Tui) amounted to another 4,719,912 euros from these funds distributed by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO).
The main actions that will be carried out with the government’s contribution are actions of planning and study of hydrological resources, of digitalization of the entire urban water cycle —from catchments to pour points—, and actions for the management of information through the elaboration of a centralized website for the analysis and control of all installed devices and another informative site.
The subdelegate stressed that “the digitalization of the water cycle is much more than an online management of the municipal service.” In this regard, he explained that the new system will allow, among other things, to monitor consumption or possible losses of the network in real time. Likewise, all the actions are conceived and planned in an integral way, covering the particular needs of each city council, improving environmental sustainability, in a scenario in which droughts appear as a threat, and strengthening the efficiency of the water system of the region.
Abel Losada stressed the opportunity that the PERTE of water represents for the municipalities of the province of Pontevedra, since it will allow the modernization of their networks, with subsidies that represent an important contribution of funds that are distributed with objective criteria.
Luis Piña stressed that the contribution of 1,499,896.36 euros that the municipality of A Cañiza will receive within the framework of this project will be fundamental to advance in the modernization of the drinking water networks of the city, one of the main objectives of the town.
The mayor said that this state contribution “is a very important step to guarantee the sustainability and efficiency of the water supply network for the future”, remembering that A Cañiza is a city council located at an important height “so we depend on wells in summer”. However, he understands that “real-time monitoring and measurements of the supply network will allow us to plan better and much more accurately the needs, so that this PERTE is a bet for the future so that the capital of Paradanta has a modern, sustainable and efficient supply network for the benefit of the neighborhood and the environment”.
