The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, today approached the Port of Malpica to congratulate in first person the members of the Association of Redeiras O Fieital, for the achievement of the 3rd Excellence Award for innovation in fishing and aquaculture.
This recognition, which comes from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, is part of the XV edition of the Awards of Excellence for Innovation for Rural Women, which will hold its gala next October 15th on the occasion of the celebration of the International Day of Rural Women.
The subdelegate of the Government recalled that the objective of these awards is to distinguish innovative projects developed by women that contribute to social and economic dynamization in the rural and fishing areas and actions that recognize their fundamental role in the territory.
In this edition of 2024, three prizes were awarded for each of the four categories invited (innovation in agricultural activity, fisheries and aquaculture, in the economic diversification of the rural environment and in communication), endowed with 18,000, 12,000 and 7,500 euros.
Rivas pointed out that “with these awards, the Government shows its commitment to policies that promote full gender equality, those that favor the access of young women to agricultural, aquaculture or fishing activity, contributing to promote the diversification of economic activity at the local level, which contributes to curb depopulation and abandonment in the smaller municipalities.”
The subdelegate also indicated that rewarding this type of associative entities contributes to value their work, giving it visibility and creating successful benchmarks in rural and coastal environments.
María Rivas wanted to take advantage of her meeting with the redeiras to remember the Government’s effort in this field, with a wide range of measures to support rural women working in the fishing and shellfish sector seeking to promote gender equality and improve their working conditions. These measures “have a lot to do with improving training and training so that women acquire technical and managerial skills to access the best opportunities in the sector; but they also have to do with access to resources through funding and subsidies, visibility and recognition campaigns that show their contribution to the sustainable development of rural communities and finally, the promotion and creation of support and collaboration networks among women in the sector that favor the exchange of experiences and a sense of community.”
In granting this recognition, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food points out that: “The Association of Redeiras O Fieital, based in Malpica de Bergantiños, made up of 27 partners who work in the different fishing gear and gear, contributed to the training of their associates, their visibility, their economic diversification and their participation in congresses and conferences, which allowed them to improve their professional life.”
The redeiras of O Fieital will share awards ceremony with the women’s football team of Spain that collects the special honorary recognition of the XV edition of the Awards. In their category they will be accompanied by Conservas Ana María S.L., a family company dedicated to the artisanal manufacture of quality anchovy; and Elisabet Casanova Coste, for their active nautical tourism project Xàrter Nàutic Eli; first and second prize respectively.
