The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, approached the House of the Map tomorrow to present the new official cartographic map of the province of A Coruña, published by the National Geographic Institute (IGN) on a scale 1:200,000 and which includes the latest developments, mainly in the field of infrastructures and population centers, thus adjusting to the changes in the territory.
The updated version, which was presented to the Government’s deputy delegate, María Rivas, is now available both in paper format and for online download. The National Geographic Institute is entrusted with the preparation of the institutional series of provincial and regional maps of the whole of Spain.
The subdelegate was received at the Casa del Mapa by the head of the National Geographic Institute in Galicia, Pablo Carballo, and the head of the Promotion area of the Government Delegation, Ana Quintairós. Both explained to María Rivas that periodically an update of the official map is produced, which, in turn, serves as a basis for the elaboration of other maps, both specialized and for commercial use.
The subdelegate affirmed that “cartography is a dynamic process that requires constant updates”, and also indicated that, “these updates serve as support for a Geographic Information System (GIS) and can be used for all types of applications. It provides a view of the territory, essentially cartographic, describing the appearance and details of the surface along with the geographical objects found on it, whether natural or the product of human activity.”
This new mapping of the province will serve as a geographic base for both geographic queries and direct analysis as well as for the creation and implementation of geographic services, as well as for the procurement and updating of derived geographic data and cartographic products.
The deputy delegate also thanked the delivery of several copies of the new map to be part of the funds of the government subdelegation in A Coruña.
Finally, María Rivas indicated that the updated map of the province of A Coruña is available in paper in the store of the Map House of the National Geographic Institute in A Coruña at the price of 6 euros, but is downloadable in PDF format on the website of the National Geographic Information Center www.cnig.es, where maps can also be consulted in image, vector and topographic data of the territory.
