The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, met this morning with Araceli Fernández and Teresa García, president and manager, respectively, of the Business Association of Valdeorras (Aeva); as well as with Javier Adolfo González and Myriam Otero, president and general secretary of the company Apetamcor, to deal jointly with security issues in relation to the Valdeorresa industrial zone.
The attendees explained to the subdelegate the need for the creation of safe parking and greater surveillance in the area, due to the continuous theft of material and tools that they are suffering in vehicles and facilities in the Valdeorresas industrial zones. In addition, they also proposed the creation of rest areas on the usual truck circulation routes nationwide.
For his part, Eladio Santos referred to the data provided by the Civil Guard Command, “which show small theft of diesel and tools in the areas of the industrial estates and quarries of Valdeorras. They reflect an amount to take into account, but that is not significant compared to crimes against heritage,” he explained, in order to convey tranquility to the sector.
He also recalled the three police operations that the Civil Guard carried out successfully in relation to this problem. “One, which took place from March to May, led to the arrest of a person who stole diesel in the trucks of the region; another, in the area of Valdeorras-Bierzo, ended with several detainees who stole tools and material in the industrial areas and, finally, an international network that stole tractor heads was dismantled.”
As for possible solutions, the possibility of installing security cameras in the truck parking areas in the region of Valdeorras, as well as in other areas of the province, was considered an interesting measure. “This will cause a deterrent effect on offenders and help the Civil Guard catch them,” explained the deputy delegate.
The Valdeorresa region, due to its strategic situation, is a key point of transit for goods, which highlights the need for specific measures for the area, such as those discussed at this meeting.
