The province of Pontevedra has a new official map, published by the National Geographic Institute (IGN) on the scale 1:200,000 and which includes the latest developments, mainly in terms of infrastructures and population centers, thus adjusting to the changes in the territory. The updated version, which was presented to the government’s deputy delegate, Abel Losada, is now available both in paper format and for online download. The National Geographic Institute is entrusted with the preparation of the institutional series of provincial and regional maps of the whole of Spain.
The head of the IGN in Galicia, Pablo Carballo, and the head of the Promotion area of the Government Delegation, Ana Quintairós, explained to Abel Losada that periodically an update of the official map is produced, which, in turn, serves as a basis for the elaboration of other maps, both specialized and for commercial use. “Cartography is a process that, contrary to what one might think, is very dynamic and requires permanent adjustments,” said the deputy delegate, who thanked the Subdelegation for handing over several copies of the new map.
The updated map of the province of Pontevedra is available on paper in the shop of the Map House of the National Geographic Institute in A Coruña at the price of 6 euros, but is downloadable in PDF format on the website of the National Geographic Information Center www.cnig.es, where maps can also be consulted in image, vector and topographic data of the territory.
