The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, reaffirmed today the commitment of the Government of Pedro Sánchez with the transformation of Tui, which continues with the start of the humanization works of the Avenue of Portugal. The delegate supervised the development of the actions accompanied by the subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, and the mayor, Enrique Cabaleiro. During the visit, he celebrated the impulse of a project that responds to a historical demand of the town, with an investment of more than 500,000 euros from the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility.
The delegate highlighted the work “as a new sign of the Government’s commitment to the Camino de Santiago and to tourism”, as it will allow to embellish and improve the road safety of the entrance to Spain through the Portuguese Way, acting on a stretch of about 400 meters, crossed by the intersection of the N-551 with the N-550.
In this sense, he recalled that so far in 2024, more than 50,000 pilgrims and pilgrims traveled the Portuguese Way and Tui received about 20,000, “so we are facing one of the ‘Capitals of the Way’ and this deserves a continuous effort to favor its quality and sustainability.”
Thus, Pedro Blanco valued the permanent collaboration of the Government of Pedro Sánchez with the Concello de Tui and, in particular, “the excellent work that its mayor is doing to transform the municipality in the hand of the Executive.” The delegate stressed that in recent years Tui mobilized more than 15 million government investment for actions of all kinds in the areas of tourism, trade, sport, the environment and, of course, infrastructure.
In this respect, the delegate highlighted the new aid of 1.5 million euros captured by the Concello under the last call of the PERTE del Agua. Tui is part, together with Salceda de Caselas, O Porriño and Mos, of the Consortium for the Management of the Urban Water Cycle of the Louro, which received 4,719,912.04 euros from the Government’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan to improve efficiency and digitize the urban water cycle.
Project
The project covers a straight stretch of approximately 400 meters, starting at the intersection of the N-551 with the N-550 (intersection of the Parador Nacional de Tui) and ending at the Ponte Internacional crossing the River Miño.
The main actions contemplated in the intervention consist of the redistribution of the cross-section of the section and the reorganization of traffic in the environment of the Border Police and Customs building. The image of the whole is going to be improved, adapting it to the cultural and patrimonial value of the area. It will also act on the existing drainage elements to adapt them to the new design of the cross-section of the avenue.
