Pontevedra, August 23, 2024.- The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, celebrated today the National Bandeira Day of Ukraine with a group of Ukrainian refugees residing in the province and belonging to the Sunflower Association, which is presided over by Marta Skyba.
To all of them he conveyed the solidarity with the Ukrainian people of the Government of Spain and reiterated “the absolute commitment to his country, which is defending not only its own existence, but the democratic values and integrity of Europe”.
Losada stressed the government’s support for Ukraine “in the face of a process of border invasion that has not been known since World War II” and expressed surprise at the fact that “political forces of different signs are closer to the aggressor than to those attacked.” The deputy delegate again listened to the demands transferred from the association that have to do, mainly, with the processing of immigration permits, labor market or access to housing, to which, in this case, the language barrier is added, especially in the elderly. The Subdelegation has already made efforts to streamline the different administrative processing processes.
In this regard, Losada recalled that people displaced by war who have a special residence permit, can continue to apply for Temporary Protection in all member countries of the European Union, a procedure that will be extended until March 4, 2025. The institutional act, which aims to give visibility and avoid forgetting the war in Ukraine, ended with the deployment of two Ukrainian flags on the balconies of the Subdelegation, where they will stay all weekend.
