The Government Recovery Plan promotes Professional Training in Galicia with the creation of about 20,000 places until June of this year

The Government Delegation in Galicia underlines that the Government of Pedro Sánchez’s commitment to the modernization of Vocational Training through the Recovery Plan translates today in Galicia into 19,744 new places in vocational training cycles. This is reflected in the Balance Sheet “Complying”, published this week by the Government, which reviews the commitments made by the Executive since the beginning of this legislature.

Since the beginning of the Recovery Plan, in 2021, the Government transferred to the Xunta, as the competent administration in education, 23.7 million euros with the objective of creating 23.217 new places in training cycles of Professional Training in the Community, 7,000 of them in bilingual cycles. In recent months the Ministry of Education completed these transfers with 10.5 million euros for the creation, until the end of this year 2024, of 5,613 new places.

This commitment to the provision of places is part of the Plan for the Modernization of Vocational Training, a priority policy for the Government and which is included under its own heading within the Plan for Recovery, Transformation and Resilience. In total, the Government will finance the creation of more than 400 thousand new Vocational Training places throughout Spain.

Since 2019, the budget allocated to FP has increased by 865%. This increase allowed the creation of new professional qualifications and qualifications, the modernization of the system or the increase of 35% of VET students. Thanks to this comprehensive reform, Vocational Training has a greater impact on the incorporation of young people into the labour market and is a priority educational option for more and more people. In this line, Galicia comes from registering a record of applications for admission to training cycles of Professional Training, with more than 54,000 applications completed.

With regard to this legislature, the Government completed the normative development of the Vocational Training Act, with the approval of four royal decrees and culminated in the implementation of the dual system of training cycles of the Middle and Higher Grades. This modification will allow the students of Vocational Training (FP) to be trained in the center and in the company from the first year of the training cycle, with stays of longer duration and quality in the companies.
