The Government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, reiterated today in Vigo the commitment of the Government to continue increasing the staffs of the National Police in Galicia, which today reach the historic maximum of troops in the Galician police stations. It did so at the presentation and welcome ceremony for 117 officers and inspectors of the National Police who are taking part in internships at community police stations.
In his speech, Pedro Blanco highlighted the economic and budgetary effort of the Government of Pedro Sánchez to recover the loss of troops of previous years with calls that reflect a replacement rate of 125%. The delegate meant that this effort translates into more than 18,000 places called for entry into the Basic Scale of the National Police in recent years.
The delegate highlighted the measures carried out to favor the incorporation of women and added the commitment “for the material, technical and infrastructure improvement of the National Police, and, of course, the necessary training and innovation, to always be a step ahead of crime,” said the delegate.
The presentation was also attended by the Mayor of Vigo, Abel Caballero; the Subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada and the Subdelegates of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, and in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, and the Superior Chief of Police of Galicia, Ramón Gómez.
At the beginning of the event, a minute of silence was kept in memory of the sailors who died in the shipwreck of the ship “Argos Georgia”. The delegate also had words of remembrance and appreciation for the ship’s crew as a whole and for their families.
Practical training stage
This event marks the beginning of on-the-spot training for the 100 trainee policemen who arrive in the Community: 90 men and 26 women, who are going to join the different police stations of the National Police. Specifically, there are 24 police trainees who will serve in A Coruña, 9 in Ferrol, 14 in Santiago de Compostela, 4 in Ribeira, 12 in Lugo, 11 in Ourense, 12 in Pontevedra, 4 in Vilagarcía de Arousa, 4 in Marín and 23 in Vigo.
During the internship phase, which lasts eleven months, the police will obtain the level of professionalization required for the development of the functions of the police category. For this, they will serve in the citizen security brigades, judicial police, foreigners and borders, scientific police and information, as well as in the complaints office. Once this internship period is over, the agents will already be incorporated into their first job destinations.
Along with the police trainees, 17 student inspectors were also presented in Vigo, who are now starting seven months of practical training in police stations in Galicia as part of the Promotion to the Executive Scale Course.
