The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, showed his satisfaction by “seeing how the government of Pedro Sánchez continues to unblock significant infrastructures for the vertebration of Pontevedra and Galicia”. He did so during the visit to the refurbishment of the Pontevedra Norte link with the AP-9, in the so-called Fire Brigade, which began today. He was accompanied by the acting mayor, Eva Vilaverde; the deputy delegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada; the head of the Road Demarcation in Galicia, Ángel del Río, and spokespersons of the municipal groups of the City of Pontevedra, among other authorities.
Pedro Blanco stressed that the start of the remodelling works “pays a historical debt to the city” and stressed that “the Government of Pedro Sánchez complies with Pontevedra, while others dedicated themselves to promising this work on repeated occasions without doing anything”. “This government not only fulfills its commitments and responds with facts, but also makes the promises of previous governments a reality in a constant way,” he insisted.
The delegate also pointed out “the unprecedented effort and investment” of the Executive, which already invested more than 212 M€ in infrastructure in the province of Pontevedra. In this regard, he recalled that the last General Budgets of the State already collected an increase of 16% with respect to the previous ones and the objective is to continue increasing this investment, he said.
Pedro Blanco also claimed the AP-9 bonuses, “since they represent a before and after having allowed all Galicians and Galicians to save in just two years more than 100 million euros in tolls, and this while continuing to work to achieve the one hundred percent committed bonus”.
One of the “city gates”
The delegate stressed the importance of the Fire Brigade, which is one of the gateways to a city “with a growing tourist spirit” and said that the work will improve “the mobility of Pontevedra and the Rías Baixas”.
The remodeling of the North link will be synchronized with the implementation of a traffic plan that minimizes the impact on road traffic in a particularly sensitive area of exit and entrance to the city. The work, which represents a total investment of 9.9 million euros, was awarded to the company Comsa.
The works will consist of the complete remodeling of the knot, reinforcing the permeability provided by the bridge of the Corrientes with the urban plot of Pontevedra. It will move from the current link with the AP-9, which presents problems of functionality in several of its movements, to a more functional connection in which the roundabout of the Bridge of As Correntes gains prominence in the distribution of traffic and increases its diameter.
The roundabouts of the Ponte and the Bomberos are joined by a stretch of double carriageway (four lanes) thanks to the duplication of the current elevated pass. New links are built with the AP-9 to guarantee all the Vigo-Pontevedra and Pontevedra-Santiago movements. In addition, a wide sidewalk is created to enable a safe pedestrian itinerary between the white-tipped Fontan street and the Civil Guard Command. Finally, the additions towards the autonomous roads PO-531 (Vilagarcía) and PO-308 (Sanxenxo-Ponte de la Barca) are simplified.
