Marín, June 28, 2024.- The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, visited this morning the humanization works of the PO-11 in the urban section of Marín, coinciding with the Avenue of Ourense. Accompanied by the mayor, María Ramallo, and by the provincial head of Roads, Pablo Domínguez, stressed that with this action they are manifested to the will of the Government of Spain “that is going to cede this urban section in magnificent conditions to the City Council, benefiting the entire neighborhood of Marín and the thousands of people who use this public highway”. Abel
Losada stressed that the Government “shows in Marín its municipal vocation” and advances that “we will continue to work hand in hand with all municipalities particularly in the chapter of investments, as we understand that all administrations should do”. “This action is a good example of what institutional collaboration should be,” he explained. The project’s budget, executed by the Ministry of Transport with European funds from the Spanish Government’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, amounts to €1,119,358.61. The works began in March and are being developed at a good pace, with the expectation that they can be completed by the end of the year.
It is expected to slow down during the summer to damage road traffic as little as possible. The deputy delegate thanked the City Council for its active cooperation, “which actively collaborated in the design of this humanization work, which represents a very important improvement in terms of safety and accessibility for pawns in a fundamental entrance to the urban center of Marín.” Abel Losada explained that the intervention “allows to win in rationality, since after this work the entire urban section of the PO-11, until the end in the street of the Plaza de España, will become municipal ownership, thus responding to the plenary agreement adopted”. The works cover the almost 1.6 km stretch between Cantoarea and the Plaza de España, which means in practice the transformation of the fundamental artery of the urban center of Marín. The design is based on a large extension of the width of the sidewalks on the inner shore, creating a large surface intended for pawns and solving accessibility problems existing until now.
The homes, the hotel industry and the commercial fabric of the area are already beginning to benefit from this new pedestrian space as the subdelegate and the mayor saw in a walk through the area. This important expansion was possible by removing the overwidth on the asphalted surface that was on the shore adjacent to the port. The other differential element of the work is the construction of a roundabout at the crossing, now regulated by traffic lights, at kilometre point 5+050. This roundabout will mean a significant improvement in the fluidity of the circulation and also in road safety by promoting turns.
In this way the current traffic light will be eliminated. As for parking, the battery arrangement is maintained on the port side and online on the shore of the interior. The action has already overcome the most complicated final stage of the installation of the pipes of the municipal water, sanitation and stormwater services, as well as the transversal crossings on the road. Finally, there will also be the complete renovation of the stand and signage, as well as the placement of new street lamps and luminaires, as well as the provision of urban furniture.
