The Subdelegation of the Government of Pontevedra organized a telematic meeting with the Mothers and Country Associations (ANPA) of the province to encourage them to join the activities of the Master Plan for Coexistence and Improvement of Security in educational centers and their environments. The meeting was organized yesterday evening at the headquarters of the Subdelegation and was attended by the head of the High Educational Inspection of the Government Delegation, Xosé Lois García Carballido; the inspector of the Ministry of Education, José María Alén; the commander of the Civil Guard, Gerardo Calvo; and the agent of the National Police, Miriam Núñez, as representatives of the management of the Master Plan in the State Security Corps and Forces.
A total of 52 ANPAs from the province participated in the meeting, which received detailed information from the catalogue of informative sessions offered by the National Police and the Civil Guard in matters such as cybersecurity, protection of children on social networks, harassment and cyberbullying, coexistence, violence against women, trafficking or addictions, among other topics. A catalogue that the Ministries of Interior and Education, responsible for this program, are expanding and perfecting year after year, depending on demand.
The session, which lasted almost two hours, culminated with more than twenty questions asked by the province’s ANPAs and also served to gather their suggestions for the incorporation of practical content on the management of parental control applications, on the use of technology or the need to reduce the educational levels to which cybersecurity sessions are directed.
The Subdelegation and the Government Delegation in Galicia urged the group of mothers and fathers to take advantage of the resources of the Master Plan, given that little more than a thousand of the 38,000 participants in this Plan during 2023 in the province were fathers or mothers of schoolchildren. For this reason, the subdelegate, Abel Losada, opted to reach the parents’ collective directly with the information in the form of a telematic meeting. It was also explained that talks for mothers and fathers are independent of those offered to students and with a specific focus. In addition, it was discussed the possibility of coordinating them, in the smaller municipalities, in cooperation with the municipal authorities so that they can be offered side by side to the community of mothers and fathers of the different educational centers in the same session and thus ensure sufficient assistance.
Finally, it was agreed, in view of the success of this pioneering experience, to hold an annual telematic meeting with the ANPA of the province, preferential at the beginning of each school year, since the directives of the associations are changing the measure that the sons and daughters advance in the different educational stages. In addition, the Government Delegation pointed out that the initiative will be extended to the rest of the provinces of Galicia to encourage parents to participate and train with the experts of the State Security Forces and Bodies to obtain tools that contribute to the education and protection of their sons and daughters.
In 2023, seven out of ten educational centers in Galicia requested awareness talks within the Master Plan. In the province of Pontevedra the percentage of participation was 63%, with 314 participating centers.
During the year, the specialized teams of National Police and Civil Guard carried out about 4,200 training and prevention activities, of which 1,041 were in Pontevedra. Participation in the province reached almost 38,000 people, of which 34,661 corresponded to students and the rest to teachers and mothers and fathers.
