A total of 16,377 people residing in the province of Pontevedra who currently receive unemployment benefit will be able to benefit from the reform of this aid, approved by the Council of Ministers yesterday Tuesday. The deputy delegate of the Government, Abel Losada, stressed that, once again, “behind the measures approved by the Government of Spain there are people in a situation of vulnerability that has improved their living conditions. On this occasion, they are the people who are going through a delicate situation in their work career.”
The subdelegate explained that working people who take advantage of the new unemployment assistance model will enjoy simpler access, better protection and, in addition, they will be able to make unemployment benefits and benefits compatible with their own employment. The regulation, which is the result of the agreement reached last May between the Government of Spain and the unions, will fully enter into force in November.
Protection improvement
As of June 1, the unemployment benefit will reach 570 euros during the first 6 months, instead of the 480 euros that were received until now in that same period. The reform also provides for other modifications that will be fully in force from the month of November.
Among the novelties of the subsidy, Losada stressed, is the elimination of the waiting month since the application and the granting of the benefit, “thus ending the gaps in coverage at a time when people need to receive the encouragement of the institutions and that, with the previous model, they did not understand that they had to be a month without charging”.
In addition, the aid is open to people under 45 years of age without family burdens, a condition (that of having family burdens) that until now was an indispensable requirement and also extends to temporary workers in the agrarian regime. Likewise, women over 16 years of age who are victims of gender violence will be able to access a specific new creation grant with the same amounts. Another novelty is the possibility of accumulating paid hours of absence by breastfeeding as a right of all working people without this possibility being collected by agreement. Finally, the right to a subsidy is also recognized for Spanish emigrants who have returned without the right to pay for unemployment benefits.
The Government’s Deputy Delegate stressed that not only do the 16,377 people who currently receive the unemployment benefit go on to benefit from this improvement package, but there are another 8,000 people under the age of 45 in the province who are currently receiving the contributory unemployment benefit (the “unemployment”) who will be able to receive the unemployment benefit once they finish receiving the contributory benefit, given that the requirement of having family burdens to be able to benefit from this aid has been eliminated.
The amounts that can be received with the new model of unemployment benefit are increased because the equivalent percentage of the Public Multiple Income Indicator (IPREM) rises. The new amounts of the unemployment benefit are as follows:
- 6 first months: 95 % IPREM 6 months (570 euros second the current reference).
- 6 months following: 90% IPREM (540 euros).
- Rest of it period: 80% IPREM (480 euros).
