The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, María Rivas, attended today a new coordination meeting with Concello de Ferrol, as entities veciñais and Navantia to check and analyze the development of the humanization works of the Avenue of As Pías and prepare the new traffic diversion for the summer.
This meeting, which continues the working meetings held in March and April and which responds to the commitment of dialogue between administrations promoted by the Government, reviewed milestones such as the recent putting into service of the street that connects the neighborhoods of Caranza and El Bertón or the cut of the so-called Trinchera Highway (FE-11) and which, as María Rivas pointed out, “recorded significant incidences in traffic, not even at peak hours”.
Precisely, the detours enabled on Calle Marqués de Salamanca focused much of the meeting. In this regard, he announced that the construction management will modify at the end of this week the pedestrian detour, which will be adjacent to the new roundabout, in which the damage to the firm caused by bad weather will be repaired. It was also agreed with the Local Police and the Council to reinforce the signage to enhance the use of the detour, so 14,000 vehicles have already passed in the 15 days it has been in service and that allows to decongest the traffic in the center of Ferrol.
At the end of the meeting, the subdelegate announced that, for the summer, both the Avenida de Marqués de Santa Cruz and the Trinchera road (FE-11) will be in service and road and pedestrian detours will be enabled to proceed to the demolition of the lower pass of the Nova de Caranza rua, scheduled before the beginning of the school period.
María Rivas pointed out that the transformation of the area “is being very well valued by the neighborhood, which checks how Ferrol is humanized” and that it allowed, among other milestones, the elimination of the viaduct of Calle Marqués de Santa Cruz, “very close to the sea and that now has a very different urban attraction”.
The deputy delegate took the opportunity to recall that, since last April, a citizen’s office is operational on Venezuela Street where, from 9 to 14 and from 16 to 19 hours from Monday to Friday, neighbors can request information or present complaints or suggestions regarding the works. In addition, he noted, an email (ferrol@eptisa.com) and a telephone line (981318684) were also enabled for the same purpose.
Remodeling of As Pías Avenue
The remodeling and humanization of the avenue of As Pías will transform the physiognomy of the main entrance of the city, creating a boulevard of more than one kilometer in length and connecting at the same level the neighborhoods of the environment. This action is included in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR).
The subdelegate recalled that last March, the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility announced an increase in the initial budget by 20% to assume an improvement in the execution of this work. In total, it will be 11 million euros, 1.7 M€ more than the previous budget, to improve this action “and carry it out with the least possible inconvenience”.
