The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, reported that the Ministry of Culture and Sport has come to tender for 1,275,945 euros the contract for the drafting of the project and the management of the rehabilitation works that will turn the former convent of Sano Francisco into the new headquarters of the Provincial Historical Archive of Pontevedra.
The subdelegate of the Government celebrated this new “since it represents an advance in the materialization of an old demand of the Pontevedreses and Pontevedresas, who demanded the reform and use of this emblematic building, located in the heart of the city, and a new investment of the Government in Pontevedra”.
The tender for the project, which Abel Losada highlighted will allow “to recover for the city a very unique piece of its heritage”, will remain open until June 25.
In parallel with the procedure for contracting the drafting of this reform project, another tender, amounting to 599,904.19 euros, for the integral repair of the roof, has been under way since last week. In total, due to the lack of the allocation of internal reform works for the future Archive, 1.8 million euros were already mobilized within the framework of this action.
The Provincial Historical Archive
The current headquarters of the Provincial Historical Archive of Pontevedra, located since 1960 in the Casa de los Fonseca, on the Paseo de Colón, is insufficient to house all its funds, which since 2001 have also been scattered by a series of rented basses.
In order to solve these problems of lack of space, the Ministry of Culture decided to transfer the Archive to the former headquarters of the Delegation of Finance in the city, located in a part of the Convent of Sano Francisco, a property that needs the integral rehabilitation in progress.
