Marín, April 26, 2024.- The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, visited this morning the Port of General Interest of the State of Marín, where he was received by its president, José Benito Suárez Costa. Both held the first official meeting after the appointment of Abel Losada as subdelegate and made a tour of the port facilities.
In the course of the visit, the latest actions tendered by the Port Authority under the Government’s Recovery Plan were supervised, among which are the works to improve the energy efficiency of the port lighting, as well as the improvement of telemetry instruments, which represent an investment of more than 1.2 million euros.
They also reviewed the works, recently formalized, to improve the interior facilities of the fish market and renovate the sanitation of the fishing pier, amounting to 1.17 million euros. On the other hand, they supervised the project of automation and monitoring of the railway network of Porto that will improve efficiency in port operations and provide greater security to operations with the train.
Abel Losada and Suárez Costa described the meeting as “very profitable” and highlighted the strategic importance of Porto de Marín for the whole province and Galicia as demonstrated by the figures of freight traffic in 2023, period in which it moved more than 2 million tons worth between 3,000 and 4,000 million euros. No 2024, the data of movement of goods in the first quarter of the year in the Marinese rada indicate a year-on-year growth of 21.82%, becoming the Galician port that recorded the highest increase in this period.
