Ourense, April 17, 2024.- "The factor excess of speed or inadequate speed is present in a multitude of sinister roads, either as a single or joint cause in the production of the sinister. ", he said is one of the main messages with which this morning started the control and surveillance campaign and speed that from this Monday, April 15 and until Friday, April 21 starts the DGT.
The subdelegate of the Government has been present in the control of this campaign in the province of Ourense that was carried out this morning at PK 248 of the N-525 as it passed through Cambeo, where he was accompanied by the provincial traffic chief, David Llorente; and the accidental lieutenant chief of the Traffic subsector of the Civil Guard in Ourense, Javier Barja. This conventional road is the road where most accidents occur and that, precisely, is the most unsafe in the province until the implementation of the section radar in the area of O Viso, which eradicated the accident in the area. An example of dissuasive measures alerting drivers, the deputy delegate said.
Emilio González defended that "the objective of this campaign is to reduce the average speed, and the support of local police will be counted on to achieve a greater reach also on urban roads." Thus, the subdelegate recalled that the "speed on this type of roads is 30 km/h and called for drivers to comply".
To carry out this task, the local police of Ourense will have a vehicle with built-in radar assigned by the DGT to carry out speed monitoring during this campaign. During his speech, Emilio González recalled that "excesses of speed represent seven out of ten sanctions imposed on Galician roads". In the first quarter of 2024 in the province of Ourense a total of 4 people died, 30 serious accidents caused by excesses of speed, which accounts for a third of traffic accidents.
The subdelegate also reported that in the coming months a response will be given to a historical demand made by the City of Ourense for the reduction of the accident n acity with the installation of a new Caja fixed radar at the entrance of the neighborhood of Vistahermosa.
These controls are intended to control overspeed, which is the speed at which we travel higher than that allowed on the road in question (generic speed or specific speed according to signaling).
On the other hand, inadequate speed is also important. Even though it is legal, it is not adequate to circulate in adverse weather conditions, sections with works, in poor condition or with similar incidents.
