The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted the functionality of the new SEPE offices in the neighborhood of A Residencia de Lugo, which will serve more than 27,000 lucenses in its 350 square meters of space, where the Government invested 1,227,000 euros for its remodeling. Pedro Blanco visited the facilities this morning accompanied by the mayor of the city, Paula Alvarellos; the deputy delegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, and the provincial director of the acting SEPE, Ana María García. This new center integrates the services of the previously existing ones in the streets Río Cabe and Campos Nuevos.
The delegate also valued the free transfer of the lands of the old School of Nursing through the General Treasury of Social Security, “which made possible the conditioning of the building that houses both the employment offices of the Xunta de Galicia and those of the SEPE.” He stressed that the Government of Pedro Sánchez thus guarantees that Lugo has a new, modern and efficient employment service center, which serves more than 100 people daily.
The delegate explained that “in the last year the SEPE carried out in the province of Lugo about 33,000 démarches, in which the processing of unemployment benefits stands out, which totaled 109 million euros in the province.” Of this amount, Pedro Blanco detailed that 46% of the total unemployment benefits were processed in the city of Lugo, with 50 million euros paid in the capital.
During the visit, Pedro Blanco thanked the provincial director of the acting SEPE, Ana María García, “for the work of all the staff of this Service.” He also mentioned “the will of the Concello de Lugo to expedite all the licenses for the conditioning of these new offices.” He concluded that this investment “shows once again the Government’s commitment to improving infrastructure in the city and in the province of Lugo and to providing better spaces for public services, both for public employees and for users.”
New facilities
The works carried out guarantee an adequate conditioning of the infrastructures, solving problems related to the insufficiency of the space. The new SEPE offices now occupy the third floor of the building with an area of more than 350 m2, improving the conditions in which these services are provided. The rehabilitation of the building also allowed the improvement of air conditioning, signage and security, as well as the renovation of furniture.
