The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, Isabel Rodríguez, carried out the reading of the manifesto on the occasion of the 8M day, International Women's Day, accompanied by representatives of the Security Forces and Bodies and workers of the administration.
The subdelegate recalled the report prepared by the Government that a total of 255 rules approved between January 2020 and February 2023 had a positive impact on the reduction of inequality between men and women. “That remains the line of action to achieve full equality with public policies that are reflected in the daily lives of women.” Despite this, the subdelegate noted that “there is still much to do, for example, we continue to see how in Galicia women are earning 19% less than men, one of the data that indicates that we have to continue working to eliminate that gap.”
“The Government is taking a comprehensive approach to resolving these differences through employment, conciliation, equal representation, as well as other measures that demonstrate a real commitment to equality, since the only way to progress and materialize democratic societies is to invest in women,” said Isabel Rodríguez, referring to the motto chosen this year by the United Nations.
The Government’s deputy delegate in Lugo highlighted all the steps that have been taken in recent years at the national level, such as the meeting of the Social Forum against trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation or the renewal of the State Pact against Gender Violence, focusing on the strengthening of means and resources and the incorporation of universal screening in primary care for the early detection of violence against women. He also mentioned the legislative impetus for the protection of minors from pornography or the approval of the draft Organic Law on Equal Representation and Balanced Presence of Women and Men, among other lines.
