The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, traveled today to the city of Cedeira to preside, together with the mayor Pablo Moreda, the constitution of the Interinstitutional Coordination Table against Gender Violence in the municipality. He stressed that Cedeira is “a committed city council that makes use of all the tools that the Government puts at its disposal to combat all violence against women” and with it there are already 41 municipalities in the province of A Coruña that already work with Interinstitutional Coordination Tables.
For the subdelegate, the fundamental piece to achieve an egalitarian society and an aware and sensitized citizenry in the field of gender violence is the collaboration between administrations and institutions. “The Government is committed to working to protect all women who suffered and suffer this type of violence, and for that, the administrations and institutions must work hand in hand, to prevent and detect cases of violence and of course to combat them,” said Rivas.
He recalled that in the province of A Coruña there are currently 2,194 active cases of gender violence in the VioGén system that have some kind of protection by the Security Forces and Corps. “The Government will continue to work to offer victims and their families all available resources and the best protection, since every woman deserves to be free.”
María Rivas thanked Pablo Moreda, as well as the mayors of the other 40 municipalities of the province of A Coruña that have an Interinstitutional Coordination Table, for their collaboration in the fight against gender violence. “With this constitution, we are taking a further step towards a more just and egalitarian society while improving coordination to better serve victims.”
In this same vein, the subdelegate encouraged all municipalities in the province of A Coruña that have Local Police to join the VioGen System, and recalled that there are already 21 municipalities that are part of this system of protection for victims of gender violence, and 3 are in the process of inclusion.
Constitutive session
In this first session of constitution of the Cedeira table, issues such as the objectives to be followed and the rules of operation, among others, were addressed. The priority function of this body is to offer tools to work on prevention, early detection of cases of male violence and to provide an agile response to victims, as well as for their protection. “It is a fundamental tool to combat male violence and we must make the most of it, from proposals, analysis, involvement, collaboration and work,” said Rivas.
The Cedeira coordination table has representatives from all areas involved, both directly and indirectly, in the fight against gender violence and the protection of victims. Thus, the table is composed of members of the Local Police, the Civil Guard, the municipal social services, health center and school centers. The deputy delegate took the opportunity to thank the Security Forces and Corps for their involvement, whose work “is a fundamental pillar in the protection of victims and their families and in the fight against gender violence.”
Since 2018, the city of Cedeira received a total of 30,989.74 euros in the matter of the State Pact against Gender Violence for the development of activities for prevention and awareness in this matter, is part of the Viogén system and also hosted in 2022 MAVI, the travelling suitcase against gender violence.
