The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, chaired together with the mayor of the municipality, María Barral, the Local Security Board in Betanzos, in which they addressed different issues related to citizen security, with special attention to the protection of victims of gender violence.
At the meeting, María Rivas and the mayor of Betanzos analyzed the data provided by the victim protection system VioGén in the province of A Coruña, in which the police systems incorporated to VioGen recorded 2,187 active cases of gender violence.
The subdelegate pointed out that “each and every one of the victims is a reason to continue working tirelessly in this matter” and that it is necessary “collaboration and coordination on the part of all institutions involved in the protection of victims of gender violence to guarantee the protection of all women who suffer or suffered some kind of gender violence, and their families”.
In this regard, the subdelegate expressed her satisfaction with the upcoming incorporation of the Local Police of the city of Betanzos to the VioGén system, since “it is a key tool to achieve a fair society and free of male violence.” In this same vein, María Rivas encouraged all the municipalities of the province with Local Police to join the VioGén system, as they have already done in the province of A Coruña 21 municipalities, plus 3 that are in the process of inclusion. He also stressed that there are already 40 Inter-Agency Coordination Tables in the province.
The deputy delegate recalled that the City of Betanzos received from 2018 the amount of 37.722.16€ in the framework of the State Pact against Gender Violence for the development of activities for prevention and awareness in this matter.
At the meeting, María Rivas and the mayor also discussed issues related to citizen security and police effectiveness. The subdelegate of the Government stressed that the crime rate of the municipality is almost three points below the national average, which is 49.0 and, with regard to the work carried out by the Security Forces and Corps during the year 2023, she noted that the level of clarification improved by almost 2 points.
In this same vein, María Rivas and the mayor of Betanzos agreed to continue promoting coordination between the Civil Guard and the Local Police to advance the security of the city council.
Master Plan for Coexistence in Educational Centers
María Rivas provided data on the incidence of the Director Plan for School Coexistence of the Ministry of the Interior, in which all 4 educational centers of Betanzos participated.
In this regard, María Rivas expressed her satisfaction with the good reception during 2023 so that in all educational centers activities of the Master Plan were developed in which 1,378 people participated among students, teachers and families.
The Master Plan for School Coexistence carried out 95 activities, of which 22 served to address issues related to bullying, 19 with the use of new technologies, 13 focused on gender violence and equality and 7 with the consumption of substances such as drugs and alcohol.
