The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, went to the Civil Guard Command in Lonzas to supervise the state of the conditioning works for the incorporation of the new units of the Operational Traffic Center (COTA) to this space. The works are funded by the Ministry of Interior which, through the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), granted 69.424 euros in order to cover the new needs and benefits of the COTA, which require a larger space.
The works involve the expansion of the current space, with the creation of 2 new individual offices connected with the Operations Room and COTA Operators, and the improvement of access to telecommunications, audiovisual, information and postal services. In addition, it will allow the incorporation of seven new COTA Complex Operating Centre (COC) operator positions.
The subdelegate pointed out that the new units “allow a much faster, effective and coordinated response to the citizens, from a space whose fundamental objective is the security of the citizens, since it facilitates the coordination work of the means involved in an emergency situation” and added that “efficient facilities imply an improvement in the quality of the services provided to the neighborhood”.
In terms of technical improvements, the works include the expansion of the electrical panel and the installation of new luminaires and emergency lighting, which will allow more efficient consumption and greater energy savings.
The conditioning of the facilities also includes the incorporation of a skylight to allow the passage of natural light to the room; the replacement of damaged furniture; the repositioning of safety and fire extinguishing equipment to place them in more accessible points of the room and the renovation of both the false ceiling and the floor, in which new tiles will be placed.
In the year 2023, the operators of the Operational Center of Services (COS) answered more than 180,000 calls from the citizens of the province of A Coruña, being the summer months in which they received more calls. The expansion of these facilities and the incorporation of COTA in anticipation is the substantial increase in the number of calls, but it will improve the coordination work that facilitates this new space, it aims to result in a better and more agile attention to them.
