The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, intervened today by videoconference in the constitution of the Interinstitutional Coordination Table against Gender Violence of the City of Narón. With Narón there are currently 40 municipalities in the province of A Coruña that already work with Interinstitutional Coordination Tables.
The subdelegate stressed that the key piece to achieve “an egalitarian society and an aware and sensitized citizenry in matters of gender violence” is the collaboration between administrations and institutions. “The Government is committed to protecting and helping each and every one of the women who suffered and suffer this type of violence, and for that, the administrations and institutions must work hand in hand, to prevent and detect cases of violence and of course to combat them,” said Rivas.
The Narón coordination table has representatives from all areas involved, both directly and indirectly, in the fight against gender violence and the protection of victims, such as the educational, social and security forces.
In this way, the table has representatives of the National Police Ferrol-Narón, the Local Police, the municipal social services, health center and schools. The deputy delegate took the opportunity to thank the Security Forces and Corps for their involvement and said that “your work is a fundamental pillar in the protection of victims and their families and in the fight against gender violence.”
María Rivas recalled that currently in the province of A Coruña there are 2,189 active cases of gender violence in the VioGén system that have some kind of protection by the Security Forces and Corps. “From the Government we will continue working to offer the victims and their families all the available resources and the best protection, since every woman deserves to be free.”
For this reason, María Rivas thanked Marián Ferreiro, as well as the mayors of the other 39 municipalities of the province of A Coruña that have an Interinstitutional Coordination Table, for their collaboration in the fight against gender violence. “With this constitution, we are taking another step towards a more egalitarian society and making available to all women the necessary resources to accompany them and protect them from their situation.”
In this same vein, the subdelegate encouraged all municipalities in the province of A Coruña that have Local Police to join the VioGen System, and recalls that there are already 21 municipalities that are part of this system of protection for victims of gender violence, and 3 are in the process of inclusion.
The task of the coordination tables is to offer tools to work on prevention, early detection of cases of male violence and to provide a quick response to victims, as well as for their protection. In this regard, the subdelegate stressed that the table is “a fundamental tool to combat male violence and we must take full advantage of it, from proposals, analysis, involvement, collaboration and work”.
The first session of the constitution of the table addressed important aspects such as the objectives to follow and operating rules among other issues. The priority function of this body is the coordination of actions in possible cases of violence that are detected, as well as of services and resources. In addition, actions in the field of prevention will be brought together.
Since 2018, the city of Narón received a total of 75,838.68 euros in the matter of the State Pact against Gender Violence for the development of activities for prevention and awareness in this matter.
