The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, highlights that almost 1,400 workers in the province received more than 10.6 million euros in terms of delays and indemnities of companies in competition or insolvency by the Salary Guarantee Fund (Fogasa), dependent on the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy. He did so during a visit to the headquarters of this organization in Vigo.
The subdelegate of the Government visited its facilities accompanied by its provincial head, Sebastián Mayo, with the aim of getting to know first-hand the work “carried out by the public employees of this body, fundamental to guarantee the rights of the workers of the province”.
In this regard, Abel Losada praised the work done from this office, the tenth in Spain that deals with the largest number of cases. The subdelegate stressed that “despite the high workload, in 2023 the processing time of benefits in Pontevedra in 2023 was 23.21 days, reducing by two days with respect to the previous year” and stressed that “I wish it was not necessary that the collective of working people had to go to the Fogasa, but in any case this is one more safety network of the welfare state because it guarantees the labor rights that it took us so long to achieve”.
This body is also a reference in the advance of electronic processing of files, which make up almost all of its procedures.
In 2023, the provincial office of Vigo processed a total of 1,728 files from 551 companies, of which 1,265 of 337 companies were approved, benefiting 1,361 working people - 53% of the beneficiaries were men and 47% women. En total, el organismo estatal abonó 10.585.421,53€ en concepto de salarios (2.455.608,66€) e indemnizaciones (8.129.812,83€). Among the cases resolved, those derived from the crises of Hiperxel, Maderas Iglesias or Ganomagoga stand out.
Likewise, as a result of its recovery activity, Fogasa entered the province during the past year 4,088,553.03€ provintes of the subscriptions of companies in a situation of insolvency and insolvency.
The subdelegate wanted to underline “the vital importance of this body to ensure the tranquility of the collective of working people in times of special difficulty for them”, and recalled the commitment of the Government of Pedro Sánchez to the expansion of labor rights, increasing the interprofessional minimum wage, and therefore, compensation in case of nudity, promoting indefinite contracts, or as has been approved, including domestic workers in the contribution and protection for unemployment of the Fogasa.
The Fogasa is an autonomous agency of an administrative nature and dependent on the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy that has attributed the payment to the workers of the salaries and compensation that the companies for which they work could not satisfy because they are either in a legal situation of insolvency or because they are declared in a competitive situation.
