The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, today approached the city of As Pontes to visit the exhibition: Yesterday, today and tomorrow of the Cultural Thermal that arrives at this town hall after starting its journey on March 31 in Ponferrada, and having already toured Asturias and Córdoba.
The Interpretation Center of the Mine of the City of As Pontes, from January 24 to April 24, hosts the exhibition Just Transition: “Yesterday, today and tomorrow.” Thanks to the collaboration agreement between the city council of As Pontes and the City of Energy Foundation (CIUDEN), the managing body of the Thermal Cultural, As Pontes becomes the next stop in the itinerancy of this exhibition. Once your stay in this villa is finished, you will move to another just transitional territory.
María Rivas, wanted to add value to this exhibition that will be able to visit for three months in As Pontes and that began its journey on March 31 coinciding with the inauguration of a collection of temporary exhibitions designed to bring art and culture closer to the areas of just transition, and that starts from the own creation of the Cultural Thermal in Ponferrada.
The temporary exhibition Just Transition: “Yesterday, today and tomorrow” shows the people who visit the reality of the areas immersed in the processes of energy transition and the strategies adopted by these territories, with an eminent industrial past, to adapt to the new context.
Thus, the exhibition reflects how to face the economic, social and climatic challenges of the present, but without forgetting the past, preserving the mining and energy identity and seeking the opportunity to make that past compatible with the search for future alternatives. This is the spirit of this participatory exhibition that narrates the impact and adaptation models of the territories in transition so that they are understood by a wide audience.
This exhibition consists of 27 panels with photographs by Eduardo Urdangaray, creator and head of the Historical Mining Archive and photoxornalist with a career of more than 30 years.
As a complement to this exhibition, you can also enjoy a virtual reality experience called Turn on the Thermal. As a novelty this immersive experience will take you to visit inside the central of As Pontes.
The virtual tour lasts 15 minutes and offers visitors a 360 degree trip through the facilities of the thermal power station of As Pontes to know its operation, from the arrival of the cargo to the coal park to the interior of the cooling tower.
“The Cultural Thermic”, incandescent culture
From the City of Energy Foundation (CIUDEN), the entity in charge of commissioning this exhibition, they also wanted to convey that this itinerant exhibition also has static activities as a complement to the one inaugurated last March in Ponferrada.
A space called “Thermal Cultural Wool”: a new space for memory, culture and leisure in Ponferrada. This cultural center, located in the old thermal power station of Compostilla I, comprises a multipurpose space conceived as a service to the citizens, which recovers the industrial heritage, preserves the memory and dynamizes the territory, through four axes of action: museum and exhibition activity; organization of forums, conferences and events; training center, digital training and workshops; and space open to citizenship and culture.
“The Cultural Thermal” houses musealised spaces and permanent and temporary exhibitions on energy and innovation, anthropology and culture and the mining and energy identity of the territory. Created and managed by the City of Energy Foundation (CIUDEN), through the Institute for the Just Transition (ITJ), this cultural center is about giving visibility to activities and areas of just transition in the Spanish territory.
