The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, together with the provincial commissioner-chief, Juan José Díaz, discussed today with the Galician Federation of Jewelry the progressive implementation in the province of the state regulations on physical and electronic protection measures in this type of establishments. The meeting was attended by Pablo García Pereira, vice-president of the Federation, and Carlos García Accomplished, secretary.
During the conversation, the legal uncertainty created by the different ministerial Ordes, dating from 2011, 2013 and 2020, was addressed, in which the deadlines for the entry into force of the regulations derived from the Private Security Law were delayed. The sector expressed its concern about the impact of the economic crisis and the pandemic, circumstances that negatively influenced and ended in the closure of many businesses. At the same time, the lack of regulatory development of this entire body of regulations was indicated, so that there is not yet a specific catalogue of measures depending on the circumstances of each establishment, but a general regulation. As a result, a clarification report is requested from the State Attorney’s Office that should be issued around the summer.
Abel Losada anticipated the willingness to collaborate with jewellers to facilitate the implementation of the planned security measures, but also stressed the mandatory nature of inspections by the National Police. Both parties agreed on formulas for the adaptation of the sector in the province and the optimization of self-protection to take place in the best possible conditions, since the vast majority of jewelry stores already comply or are in the process of adapting.
From the Federation it was explained that there are around 170 jewelry stores in the province of Pontevedra and that this is a sector that was reduced in size in a very important way due to the accumulated impact of the pandemic and the successive crises and that, in addition, it has a high average age of owners, so all the support and advice is well received.
