The Subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, held a meeting today with the Councilor of Tourism, Begoña Balado, and the Councilor of Culture, José Luís García, of the city of Arzúa, which took place in the Subdelegation of the Government. The meeting was also attended by the Head of Communication of the Festa do Queixo de Arzúa, Ramón Roldán.
At the meeting, the municipal representatives explained to the subdelegate the intention to work during this year on a program of activities aimed at obtaining the declaration of a festival of National Tourist Interest for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Festa do Queixo de Arzúa in 2025.
The first edition of the Festa do Queixo was held in Arzúa in 1975 and is dedicated both to exalting the different cheeses and native products, among which are included within the D.O. Arzúa – Ulloa, a D.O. de Tetilla, San Simón de la Costa and Cebreiro; as to offer different cultural activities and competitions. Since its first edition, Festa do Queixo was declared of Tourist Interest for its large influx of attendees and its relevance, both gastronomic and cultural and economic, for Galicia.
Post Office
The Arzuan councillors also conveyed to the Government’s deputy delegate their concern about the situation of abandonment of the Post Office, in whose rehabilitation the Government of Spain through the Ministry of Transport invested more than 600,000 euros and which was returned to its owner, that is to say to the Xacobeo Plan Management Limited Company, in an act on September 29 in which the deputy delegate of the Government participated.
Since then, the Post Office has remained closed and, as the municipal representatives said, the population cannot make use of the building.
The subdelegate of the Government undertook to transfer the reversal agreement to the Xacobeo Limited Management Company and demand that the building be put into operation with its opening so that it can be used by the residents of Arzúa.
