The government delegate, Pedro Blanco, held a videoconference this morning with the mayor of Tui, Enrique Cabaleiro, in which they addressed the commemoration of the 800th anniversary of the consecration of the Cathedral of Tui. Both agreed to point out this event, which will be held on December 1, 2025, as an opportunity to promote and position the city at a cultural and artistic level.
Pedro Blanco conveyed to the mayor the interest of the Government of Spain to promote this event and work together with the City of Tui to achieve its success and put in value the Tudense Cathedral as a historical, artistic and tourist milestone of the Iberian Peninsula.
The main objectives that the City of Tui wants to achieve with this celebration are to highlight the historical and artistic value of the Cathedral, strengthen its importance and its promotion, as well as improve the conditions of conservation of the monument. In addition, it also proposes the celebration of a meeting between the Governments of Spain and Portugal to highlight the importance of the Cathedral in the Iberian Peninsula. Not that it respects the Camino de Santiago, the City Council wants to make visible on condition of the Cathedral of Tui as one of the main locations of the Portuguese Way, given that it receives annually more than 120,000 pilgrims of multiple nationalities.
As for the permanent actions, it is intended to renew the exterior lighting of the monument, eliminate the wiring that shaves the monumental environment and create a support infrastructure for visitors. On the other hand, the presence in Tui of an exhibition of "Lanas ages of him Man" in the year 2026 will be sought, as well as the design of a light show as a cultural and tourist attraction and a scientific congress.
Pedro Blanco confirms to the City of Tui the interest of the Government to collaborate in the enhancement of the Cathedral on the occasion of the commemoration of its 800th anniversary
