The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, celebrated in Vilalba the good reception that the MAVI suitcase is having in the province, highlighting the footprint that this resource used to remove consciences and change machismo habits still present in a society that today remains marked by sexist and patriarchal behaviors can leave in the municipality.
The subdelegate presented, together with the mayor of the city, Marta Ronco, and the Head of the Gender Violence Unit of the Subdelegation, María Luisa Castro, the renewal of the books of the MAVI: The Travelling Suitcase Against Gender Violence, making clear the commitment of the city council and the Vilalbés people in the premise of “not taking a step backwards in the fight against male violence”.
“We put on record with this renewal of the remittance of feminist-themed books committed by the Government to raise awareness about a problem that affects all of us and that, as we have been corroborating since last week, 25N week, is a matter that follows the agenda and that continues to cause suffering and inequality throughout the country,” said the deputy delegate.
Thus, Rodríguez recalled that in the fight against this type of violence it is indispensable to education and the promotion of reading. That is why new books are added that are available to citizens in the municipal public library and that work on topics that favor critical thinking and the adoption of an attitude of rejection before machista and discriminatory behaviors, as well as the perpetuation of stereotypes and gender roles.
These new books are in addition to those of Viveiro, Sarria, Quiroga and Meira, as well as those of the penitentiary centers of Bonxe and Monterroso. In total, there are 2 suitcases that are currently traveling through the province with the material to work on this subject and that follow the mission of offering a new look at a problem that affects and challenges the whole society, counting our province with more than 660 active cases in VioXen.
The deputy delegate thanked the councilor for her interest in the proposal, evidencing the will to continue working for “a feminist Vilalba, which seeks to free itself from machista and misnoxious attitudes and behaviors in favor of an effective and real equality, and that thanks to these new books that we include and the programs that all public administrations are developing, we will be able to advance a true egalitarian democracy.”

The suitcase has twelve books so that both women and men can be part of the project, including a diary where the people who participate can express their reflections and opinions about the books and the experiences they had through reading.
Among the works that were in the previous suitcase were titles such as “Insolación”, by Emilia Pardo Bazán; “Maternity Homes S.A. He is the business of rented wineries”, by Laura Nuño; “Lana revuelta de lanas putas”, by Amelia Tiganus, among others. In this new remittance, between the reading we find “The story of the bonobos with glasses” by Adela Turin; “I Go With Me” by “Raquel Díaz”; “Matriarcas. Women in the foot of life” by Montse Fajardo; or “Yes you are love, in the pain” by Pamela Palenciano and Iván Larreynaga.
