The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, and the mayor, Ángel Alvariño, presided today the constitution of the Interinstitutional Coordination Table against Gender Violence of the City of Neda. With Neda there are currently 38 municipalities in the province of A Coruña that already work with interinstitutional coordination tables.
In her speech, María Rivas recalled that in the province of A Coruña there are 2,194 active cases of gender violence in the VioGén system that have some kind of protection from the Security Forces and Corps, “2,194 reasons to continue working and to make available to the victims, their families, all the resources we have at our disposal.”
In this same vein, the subdelegate stressed that in order to achieve “a fairer and more egalitarian society”, the collaboration of society as well as that of the administrations and institutions is necessary since “we owe it to the thousands of women who suffered and suffer any type of violence, to those who are in the system, and also to those who are suffering from their privacy and seeking support to take the step and get ahead”.
At the Neda coordination table are represented all the areas involved, directly or indirectly, in the fight against gender violence and the protection of victims, such as the educational, social and security forces.
In this case, the table has representatives of the Civil Guard, the Local Police, the municipal social services, health center and schools. “All the institutions that we are citing today have a lot to contribute, we are part of the essential gears to guarantee the protection of victims, to accompany them, to prevent and detect cases of violence and to combat them,” said Rivas.
The task of the coordination tables is to offer tools to work on prevention, early detection of cases of male violence and to provide a quick response to victims, as well as for their protection. In this regard, the subdelegate pointed out that the table is “a fundamental tool to combat male violence and we must take full advantage of it, from proposals, analysis, involvement, collaboration and work”.
In this first session of constitution of the table, important aspects such as the objectives to follow and operating rules among other issues were addressed. The priority function of this body is the coordination of actions in possible cases of violence that are detected, as well as that of services and resources. In addition, actions in the field of prevention will be brought together.
The municipality of Neda is one of the 24 municipalities of the province that is adhered to the VioGén system, including the last two additions, Miño and Pontedeume. In the year 2023 Neda received 11,437.68 euros in the matter of the State Pact to improve the quality of care for victims, the follow-up of each case and to improve coordination with local police.
