The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, today highlighted the investment of five million euros for the construction of the new quartering of the Civil Guard in Verín as an example of the government’s commitment to improving public services, the security of citizens and the ecological transition “in a recovery that we want to reach the whole territory, including the smallest municipalities”.
He did so during a visit to the town where he presented the project that will completely transform the current facilities of the Company of Verín, “and that will benefit the staff of 95 civil guards, their families, and the citizens of the eleven municipalities that make use of this citizen security service, about 25,000 inhabitants,” he said: “For us, public safety is not an expense, it is an investment.”
Pedro Blanco traveled to Verín with the deputy delegate of the Government in Ourense, Emilio González, where he met with the mayor of this town, Gerardo Seoane, to present the advances in the project of the new headquarters house of Verín. During the visit, during which they toured the blocks that are going to be reformed, the accidental head of the Civil Guard Command of Ourense, José Benito Fernández, and the captain of the Verín Company, Abel José Rodríguez, also participated.
The Government will invest 5 million euros in this action, of which 1.1 million come from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, and the rest are its own funds.
The renovation of the Verín headquarters is part of the set of actions promoted by the Central Government in 16 facilities of the Ministry of the Interior in Galicia with the objective of promoting energy saving and efficiency, within the framework of the Energy Transition Plan of the General Administration of the State. In the province of Ourense, this Plan works on the improvement of the barracks of Celanova, Verín and A Rúa, in addition to the National Police Station in the city of Ourense.
Performance at the Verín Barracks
The government delegate said that the Verín Company will have completely new facilities, since block I will be completely renovated to house 21 homes and the remaining three blocks will be demolished. These three blocks will be replaced by a single three-storey building and basement, where all units of the Company will be located (except the Traffic Detachment). Finally, the exterior and the gardens will be conditioned.
The first part of the work will begin to be executed at the beginning of next year as it is in the final phase of contracting by the State Society SEGIPSA. It will be joined by the project of the General Directorate of the Civil Guard, which will be contracted in parallel to the execution of these first works.
It will begin with the integral renovation of block I that will have a new exterior insulation, both of the walls and the cover, as well as the windows. More efficient lighting will also be installed. Finally, the installation of solar panels for energy supply is planned.
City Council Collaboration
The government delegate highlighted the collaboration of the Local Government of Verín for the materialization of this work, since it gave free municipal premises so that the Civil Guard continues to provide the service to the citizens for the duration of the works.
