Ourense, November 23, 2023.- The Subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Emilio González, highlighted the importance of "prevention and education to raise awareness and prevent machismo attacks" during the presentation of the "Workshop of Tai-Chi and Personal Defense "for female officials" organized by the Gender Violence Unit of the Subdelegation and which is part of the cycle of activities on the occasion of the 25th - International Day against Violence against Women - which are taking place throughout the month of November.
The subdelegate of the Government insisted on the importance of the "effectiveness of measures for the protection of victims of gender violence and the need for social awareness" so that "there are no more aggressors" and so that the victims can have "self-knowledge". Defense when it comes to avoiding possible attacks by improving their quality of life."
In addition, he highlighted the normative, technological advances and the increase in funds made by the Government of Pedro Sánchez in recent years thanks to the State Pact against Gender Violence.
The subdelegate warned that at the moment in Galicia there are more than 4,700 active cases in the Viogen system, "4,700 women who cannot live quietly, who are afraid and whose life is threatened", specifically 431 victims in the province of Ourense and added that "our responsibility and our task is to manage and make available the elements properly to give them security and protection".
The deputy delegate highlighted the "great reception, symptom of a social and real demand, that had the workshop that will be given in two days to be able to meet all the demands". Between Thursday 23 and Tuesday 28, more than 80 administration officials will pass through the Sports Pavilion of the National Police of Ourense to learn and develop techniques of personal defense such as: Getting rid of a handhold, getting out of a bend situation. On the other hand, physical and mental relaxation techniques will also be taught that can be implemented at any time and in any circumstance.
The workshop program
The workshop has two modules. The first consists of a Personal Defense class where basic techniques of prevention and personal defense are taught to free oneself and to be able to escape from a machista attack attempt with a duration of one and a half hours.
In the second module a class of Tai-chi and relaxation is taught in which it is intended to achieve body harmony and physical relaxation.
The workshop is taught by teachers specializing in personal defense from the Ministry of the Interior: José Manuel Fernández, Head of the Sanctions and Alternative Measures Management Service; Lisardo Pérez, official of the Pereiro de Aguiar Penitentiary Center and Manuel Castro Feijoo, Head of UFAM Protection of the National Police.
This activity, which took place in the National Police Pavilion of the Ourense Police Station, was organized by the Gender Violence Unit of the province of Ourense and officials of the Subdelegation of the Government, the INSS, the Cadastre, MUFACE, the National Police Service, Hydrographic Confederation, Defense Delegation, INE, SEPE, Pereiro de Aguiar prison

The subdelegate called for all the citizens of Ourense to go out to the street on November 24 to "scream against male violence" and participate in the institutional act organized by the subdelegation of the Government against Castañeira on the occasion of the 25N.
