The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas; the Mayor of Pontedeume, Bernardo Fernández Piñeiro, and the Lieutenant Colonel Chief of Operations of the Command of the Civil Guard of A Coruña, Jorge Bodelón Habas, signed this morning, at the Xunta Local de Seguridad, the protocol of adhesion to the Viogen system of protection of women victims of gender violence.
With the incorporation of the municipality of Pontedeume, there are already 23 municipalities in the province of A Coruña that are within the Viogen system.
After signing the protocol, the sub-delegate expressed her satisfaction with the incorporation of Pontedeume into the Viogen system, stating that “Viogén is an essential and necessary tool to continue advancing in the protection of victims of male violence”; she also stressed that “the fight against gender violence is a task in which all institutions must be fully involved”, and that is why from the sub-delegation of the Government “we will continue to work for that commitment”. María Rivas called on those municipalities that have not yet joined this system to do so” so that among all of us we can continue moving towards the eradication of violence against women” and that every day “more municipalities will join the Viogen system and that among all of us we can continue moving towards the eradication of violence against women”
The Viogen system allows the Local Police to have more information about active cases of male violence within the municipality. In this way, local police officers come to assume the follow-up and control of some of these cases, usually those that are considered to be of low or unappreciated risk level. In the cases that are most at risk, it is the Civil Guard that is responsible for monitoring.
María Rivas stressed the importance of municipalities being part of this system of surveillance and protection of victims, because as she explained “it is the local administration to which neighbors and neighbors are closest, and therefore, the local police of each city have a greater knowledge of the reality and therefore enrich and improve the service they provide”.
In this regard, the subdelegate stresses the importance of joint work and the exchange of information between administrations, “it is essential that this collaboration exists in order to act in a coordinated and more effective manner.”
Local Inter-Agency Coordination Table against Gender Violence
The Subdelegation of the Government in A Coruña and the municipality of Pontedeume are already working for the imminent constitution of the Local Interinstitutional Coordination Table against Gender Violence, number 37 in the province, which incorporates all those agents from different fields (police, health, education, social services or justice) working in the fight against male violence. In this way, Pontedeume will already have all the instruments that the subdelegation of the Government can make available to continue fighting against male violence.
