The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, highlighted this morning together with the mayor of Foz, Francisco Cajoto, the advances in the bet of the Government of Pedro Sánchez to guarantee 100% coverage of high-speed internet access in the province of Lugo. The city of Foz was beneficiary of the two calls for proposals of the UNICO-Broadband Program developed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation with a total of 328,565.40 euros to bring broadband connection with ultra-fast speed to 1,034 Phocensian families and companies.
Isabel Rodríguez insisted on the government’s commitment to Lugo through this program, with the objective that “our municipalities are increasingly connected for the much needed territorial cohesion, and that new people can settle in smaller population centers with the same opportunities to develop their life project.”
In the case of the province of Lugo, like Galicia, the households and companies benefiting from this initiative are in ‘white zones’, those that do not have coverage of speed networks of at least 300 Mbps, nor plans for their endowment for the next three years. “With the implementation of the 288 projects in the city of Foz we guarantee that the neighbors have stable and effective conditions of Internet connection, fundamental at present,” said Isabel Rodríguez.
“The program aims at equality throughout the province in a fundamental aspect such as access to the Internet and the use of new technologies in homes and businesses today.”
UNICO plan
This edition of the UNICO Broadband Program continues the implementation in 2021 and 2022 and is intended to universalize ultra-fast broadband coverage via fiber as a tool of social cohesion within the framework of the Government Recovery Plan. Between the two calls for this plan, the Government will bring ultra-fast connection technology to more than 32,700 homes and businesses in the province.
“This new aid allows us to continue moving forward with the deployment of the necessary infrastructures to guarantee adequate connectivity to all the population of the province with the firm commitment that in 2025 all the municipalities of Lugo are connected to the Internet by broadband,” said Isabel Rodríguez.
