The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, underlines that the government of Pedro Sánchez bets “in the present for the Cuntis of the future, with an investment of almost 580,000 euros to improve the life of all the cuntienses , favoring a greener and sustainable mobility, tailored to the people”. Pedro Blanco visited the Thermal Village where he supervised, together with the mayor, Manuel Campos, the project for the improvement of urban quality in Bernardo Sagasta Street, which will be implemented thanks to a contribution from the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO), granted under the DUS 5000 program of the Transformation and Resilience Recovery Plan of the Government of Spain.
The project is in the tender phase and will be awarded soon, with an execution period of four months after the start of the works. For the delegate, this is “a very important investment that will benefit almost 5,000 neighbors, representing the commitment of the Government with the transformation of small Galician municipalities to make them more efficient, sustainable and with a mobility more adapted to people”.
Thus, Pedro Blanco also highlighted the nature of this work, which “aligns with the objectives of the Government’s Recovery Plan and makes Cuntis a greener, more sustainable, more efficient and more friendly villa, tailored to people.”
The actions will serve to improve the mobility and universal accessibility of Bernardo Sagasta Street and a section of the N-640 road as it passes through the urban center of Cuntis. Specifically, traffic will be reordered by creating a new road section with sidewalks and a 5-meter wide road platform with parking space interspersed with trees.
In addition, there will be performances to calm the traffic and a cycling path of 2 meters wide will be created in the 800 meters of intervention between Bernardo Sagasta Street and the N-640. At the same time, the lighting will be improved in an integrated way with the aim of adapting it to the new uses of the road and meeting the current regulatory requirements. In addition, this will make it possible to significantly reduce the annual energy consumption.
The delegate indicated that “the Government continues to work to return the villas and cities of Galicia to its inhabitants,” this project being “a clear example of the way forward, in addition to showing that Galicia advances thanks to European funds”.
Government investments
The government delegate took advantage of his visit to Cuntis to review with the mayor some of the state investments and projects, including the 106,000 euros of the Ministry of Ecological Transition, aimed at improving the energy efficiency of municipal public lighting.
In addition, a new edition of the Integrated Employment Program is being developed in which the municipalities of Cuntis, Barro, Moraña, Puertas and Caldas de Reis participate together and which launches the Ministry of Employment thanks to a contribution of 250,000 euros from the Ministry of Labor. On the other hand, Cuntis and 10 other municipalities of the province of Pontevedra are part of the program “De tu mano, Commerce Inside” to make visible and modernize the small local trade to adapt it to new consumption habits through the implementation and use of new technologies. In this case, it is developed by the Provincial Council with the financing of 500,000 euros from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, coming from the Recovery Plan.
The UNICO-Broadband program, which will facilitate high-speed internet access to 236 homes in Cuntis, was another of the actions of the Government highlighted by Pedro Blanco.
On the other hand, in recent years Cuntis received 13,000 euros for actions within the framework of the State Pact against Gender Violence and 4,000 euros for the promotion of the Mentor classroom.
In terms of infrastructure, Pedro Blanco highlighted the commitment of the Ministry of Transport to the maintenance and safety of the N-640, recalling that the contract for services in the amount of 10,466,388 euros is in tender for the preventive maintenance and improvement of the firmness of this road, which will affect the municipalities of Cuntis and Caldas de Reis. Finally, he stressed the commitment of the Government to industrial development and economic activity embodied in the project of expansion of the Industrial Estate of the Ran in which the Public Enterprise Land Entity (SEPES) and the Free Zone of Vigo will invest almost 6 million euros.
