The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, participated today in the events organized by the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) and the group El Progreso on the occasion of the World Day against Breast Cancer, in which the mayor of Lugo, Lara Méndez, the president of the Provincial Council, José Tomé, the president of the collective in Lugo, María Luz Abeja, and other authorities and neighbors participated.
Isabel Rodríguez insisted that the fight against this cancer is a priority and that “it is necessary to work together with all the agents involved, from the stages of diagnosis, through treatment and recovery and the subsequent physical and mental recovery.” He noted that “thanks to medical and scientific advances we have increasingly effective therapies”, in a fight against a type of cancer that diagnosed around 34,740 new cases in Spain in 2022.
The subdelegate explained the importance of the tests and diagnosis #precoz, allowing “to detect it in early stages for a better effectiveness of the treatment, being able to provide better support also to all the members of the process, including family and friends”.
The Ministry of Health promoted breast cancer screening programs in all the autonomous communities. In addition, the Ministry of Science and Innovation allocated more than 480 million euros to research projects against this disease between 2018 and 2022.
