The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to historical heritage in the province and its municipalities with an investment of almost 700,000 euros for the Mosteiro de San Vicente de O Pino, in Monforte de Lemos. Pedro Blanco supervised the completion of the works together with the mayor of the town, José Tomé, and the deputy delegate of the Government of the province, Isabel Rodríguez. With this intervention, the Government exemplifies its commitment to the conservation of the heritage of the province and of Galicia, making it more attractive through the restoration of pieces and buildings with a great historical richness.
This work would not have been possible without the collaboration of the City of Monforte de Lemos, which requested about 41,000 euros from the Ministry of Culture to reform the lighting. All these actions allowed the opening of this temple for the monfortins and monfortins, as well as for tourists passing through the municipality. “Thanks to the collaboration between administrations, we allow the provinces of the Community to show a historical and patrimonial richness, which brings great cultural value and prestige to Galicia,” said Pedro Blanco.
In particular, performances were made in the wall paintings of the presbytery, the central nave and north wall of the cruise ship, the main altarpiece and the stone altarpiece of the cruise ship of the Mosteiro de San Vicente de O Pino. The project brought to light a mural painting in good condition, intervened and documenting this unpublished decoration with great historical and documentary interest.
The Church has been closed since 2019 and initially had an investment of 646,319 euros for intervention, conservation and restoration. Subsequently, the Diocese had a new aid of 41,000 euros processed by the City Council to finish the interior lighting, which will allow the reopening of the temple again. In total, the Government bet on the history of the municipality with a work of almost 700,000 euros.
The government delegate affirmed that “Galicia has an undeniable and important historical management and that is why we invest, in recent years, more than 125 million euros for this type of works, reforms and operations of conservation and enhancement of the Galician heritage.”
Investments in the municipality
The Government of Spain has invested around 12 million euros in the municipality this year. Among the actions presented, the delegate highlighted the Single Program – Broadband to bring high-speed fiber to 1,640 companies and homes through 271 projects to Monforte de Lemos; as well as aid for regeneration and renovation of urban buildings or projects in energy efficiency, among others.
