The deputy delegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, participated today in the tribute made to Antonio Reboiro Rodríguez, who was mayor of A Pobra do Brollón in 1936, and shot in 1938 on the occasion of the Franco repression exercised in the town. In this act was accompanied by the net of the honored mayor, Rafael Castillo; the spokeswoman of the Association for the Recovery of Historical Memory, Carmen García-Rodéjà; the writer, Olga Nuevo, and the archaeologist, Xurxo Ayán.
In her speech, the subdelegate expressed the need for the victims left by the Franco regime in the town and in the province to be recognized to “close wounds that have been open for a long time.” Therefore, the family and friends demand the fight for the recognition of relatives and friends to repair and try to mitigate the consequences of an injustice that many people are still living.
The subdelegate paraphrases the Minister of the Presidency, Relationship with the Courts and Democratic Memory, Felix Bolaños, warning that “memory is a right, for citizens and victims.” Thanks to the Law of Historical Memory, the Coup d’Etat of 1936 and the subsequent Franco dictatorship were condemned for the first time, leaving behind victims who are still being investigated and recognized today, offering a advance respect for the old law of 2007.
