Ourense, October 4, 2023.- The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Emilio González, visited this morning the storage and distribution center of the Food Bank of Ourense to supervise the development of the second phase of the 2023 Program of food aid to the most vulnerable and disadvantaged. During the visit was accompanied by Felipe Ferreiro, Provincial President of the Red Cross.
Emilio González reported that in this second phase of the Food Aid Program for the most disadvantaged people, launched by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food through the Spanish Agricultural Guarantee Fund (FEGA), food aid will be given to 9,613 orensanos who will distribute a total of 284,024 kilos of food for a value of 512,646 euros.
This is the second of the two remittances that the program will distribute this year through the storage and distribution centers of the Food Bank and the Red Cross in Ourense. These two entities count on the collaboration of 121 partner distribution organizations in the province, which are responsible for delivering first-need food baskets directly to those in vulnerable situations.
The deputy delegate of the Government wanted to thank "the Food Bank and the Red Cross for their role and contribution as storage and distribution centers, fundamental for this program", as well as "the invaluable help of the distribution organizations that collaborate with the Government in the province". Emilio González highlighted “the efforts of all these organizations and their volunteers, because together we reach those who need us most.”
The products distributed are basic, varied, nutritious, non-perishable and easy to transport and store. The food basket sent by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food includes: rice, cooked beans, UHT whole milk, tuna preserves, pasta, fried tomato, biscuits, vegetable salad, soluble cocoa and childish fruit and chicken tarritos.
