The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, went today to the Provincial Directorate of the SEPE to bid farewell to the one who, since 2018, held the position of provincial director, Carlos del Canto, who on August 21 leaves his position to assume new professional challenges, as Minister of Labour, Migration and Social Security at the Spanish embassy in Brasilia.
María Rivas wanted to give her a small gift for her dedication during all these years at the head of the provincial SEPE that has a staff of 160 people distributed in 14 offices in the province.
So far this year, SEPE has served 101,000 appointments and recognized 79,820 benefits, in addition to recognizing 17,781 requests made through pre-applications. Pre-application is a system whereby users can formulate their requests by filling out a form with a simple security protocol.
The Government’s deputy delegate highlighted all the work carried out in the SEPE, such as the unemployment protection system “a stabilising factor that contributes very significantly to cohesion and social peace, especially in times of economic crisis”.
In this regard, María Rivas recalled the response that the SEPE had with the management of the ERTES in the pandemic “in the period from April 2020 to May 2021, more than 90,000 people were served who were in Ertes in our province.”
“It was a time when work increased by 700% and even so the vast majority was able to be attended to thanks to the extraordinary work of all the people working in this provincial direction,” said the deputy delegate.
The subdelegate stressed the importance of making visible both the work and the services developed by the SEPE “a body that never stops, that its work is always in favor of workers and workers made redundant, protecting the contingency of unemployment and facilitating insertion and training with a quick and effective response”
Training
The sub-delegate also highlighted the important work of SEPE in promoting training for both unemployed and working people. At the provincial level, follow-up work is carried out on the thousands of courses that take place at the provincial level and that are subsidized or subsidised by the SEPE.
In addition, the Public Employment Service participates in the development of reserve funds with agreements with the Ministry of Defence to carry out training actions subsidized by SEPE aimed at internal Navy personnel and inmates in penitentiaries.
As far as the programming of Defense courses in 2023 is concerned, a total of €266,677.5 was allocated between the General Headquarters of the Logistics Force, the North Third of Ferrol, the Military Arsenal and the Graña School of Specialties.
