The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, has approached the Odeón en Narón Multicines to highlight the Senior Cinema program, thanks to which all people over 65 can enjoy one day a week of a ticket for 2 euros. In the region of Ferrol the beneficiaries of this program are 41,622 people out of a total of 150,655 registered.
The Odeón Multicines are one of the seven cinemas in the province that have joined this program launched by the Ministry of Culture and Sport in collaboration with the main associations of the sector. The rest of the rooms that participate in this program are: Cinesa As Cancelas (Santiago), Numax (Santiago), Cines Compostela, Cinesa Marineda City (A Coruña), Yelmo Cines Espacio Coruña y Duplex (Ferrol).
The deputy delegate has exchanged impressions with the manager of the multicines, Juan García, who has told her that since July 11, when the program began operating, more than 200 people have enjoyed the reduced price.
María Rivas has called on all cinemas participating in the program to promote this opportunity among users, “because in addition to going to the cinema in summer it is an attractive leisure alternative and more when it can be done at reduced prices”.
The subdelegate stressed the significant impact that this program can have in the province, reaching almost 300,000 neighbors and neighbors over 65 years old, 26.09% of the population of the A Coruña province.
Among the objectives of this program is to protect the economic viability of movie theaters by recovering the attendance of a wide sector of the citizens, generating a habit of consumption, while contributing to an active and healthy aging of said population.
People over the age of 65 are the ones who are taking the most time to return to the cinema attendance habits prior to the pandemic.
Key sector for the economy
Of all the cultural sectors, the cinema is one of the most affected, even today, by the pandemic. The health measures taken because of COVID-19 caused a significant decrease in the average attendance at movie theaters in the Spanish public, an attendance that does not stop recovering. Despite the rebounds experienced in 2022, the sector still has approximately 40% fewer viewers than the average of the years 2017 to 2019.
With a measure of this nature, the Government wants to continue promoting access to the audiovisual culture of the Spanish population as a whole, an engine of transformation and social and economic development, capable of generating wealth and employment.
Xove Cultural Bonus
The deputy delegate also took advantage of her visit to the Odeón multiplex to remember that the Coruña boys and girls born in 2005 can already apply for the Xove Cultural Voucher, with 400 euros destined for the acquisition and enjoyment of products, services and cultural activities.
In the second edition of this program, which is also promoted by the Ministry of Culture, it is estimated that 9,751 people turn 18 in A Coruña. To request it, they must register and perform the application procedure on the website. www.bonoculturajoven.gob.es until next September 30th.
