The Subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña came today to the Civil Guard Command in Lonzas to welcome 13 students and 2 students who, after the training period at the Academy of Baeza (Jaén) and the College of New Guards of Valdemoro (Madrid) join to carry out their practices in different positions of the command in the province of A Coruña.
Each of these students will develop their internship period in the citizen security units of Fene, Carballo, Oleiros, Arteixo, Cambre, Valdoviño, Sada, Santiago, Ortigueira, Boiro, Laracha, Milladoiro, Sigüeiro, Malpica and Melide.
The deputy delegate of the Government recalled that many of the additions, of these new and new civil guards, will allow to reinforce the police device of Operation Summer, which together with new additions to the National Police, will provide effective protection to all citizens, national or foreign, who come or move around Spain, and in particular, to enjoy their summer vacation period, as well as all activities linked to tourism.
Operation Summer started on July 1 and the police device will be extended until August 31. A total of 1,571 police officers will be dedicated to this operation, which will pay special attention to cities, tourist areas, festivals and the Camino de Santiago. Of this total, 822 personnel belong to the Civil Guard and 749 to the National Police Force.
The deputy delegate also recalled that Galicia has the highest number of troops of the State Security Forces and Corps in history. The gradual incorporation into their police stations or barracks, during these days, of the latest promotions of agents who passed the initial training process in the academies of each body will make the personnel of the State Security Forces and Corps in Galicia reach 8,858 people.
This is higher than the figure registered at the end of 2011, a date that until now marked the maximum number of police officers in the Community. Since that year, the personnel of the National Police and the Civil Guard experienced an accused reduction process that led to the fact that, in December 2017, both bodies numbered 8,214 in the Community. Therefore, this summer’s figure will exceed by 644 the troops of five years ago, with a growth of 7.8%.
The increase in the number of National Police and Civil Guard personnel was made possible by the five successive offers of public employment convened at the joint initiative of the Ministry of Finance and Public Service and the Ministry of the Interior, all with replacement rates of over one hundred percent.
