The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Maica Larriba, presided this morning the Local Security Xunta of the City of Ponteareas, together with its mayor, Cristina Fernández, in which the self-protection plan designed by the City Council on the occasion of the festivities of Corpus in the town was analyzed. The meeting was also attended by the chief colonel of the Pontevedra Civil Guard Command, Simón Venzal, the chief captain of the Traffic subsector of the Pontevedra Civil Guard, Antonio Pérez Piteira, as well as members of the Local Police and the emergency corps.
The meeting analyzed the self-protection plan presented by the municipal government and which will be activated during the 10 and 11 of June. The subdelegate wanted to highlight the plan, which includes the design of a special security and traffic operation on the occasion of the municipal festivities and which provides, among others, safe evacuation routes, preferential care and security points, the mobilization of medical, civil protection and fire-extinguishing equipment, as well as the placement of a violet point close to the nightlife area. In addition, identification bracelets will be issued to be distributed among minors in order to facilitate their location in the event of loss due to the accumulation of persons and an advanced command post has been installed from where the different security teams will coordinate.
During the meeting, Maica Larriba pointed out “the importance of this plan, which favors coordination between the different bodies and security forces and guarantees the good development of the festive events and, therefore, the safety of the neighborhood and visitors who approach Ponteareas in these days”.
Maica Larriba also stressed “the maximum availability of the State Security Bodies and Forces to articulate the relevant measures that guarantee citizen security and road safety” and informed of the different actions that they will carry out and that go through the realization of traffic controls in the accesses to the villa and its parishes, which may involve some traffic cuts in certain streets, and the activation of alcohol and drug controls.
The agents of the State Security Forces and Corps will work in coordination with the agents of the Local Police and Civil Protection, ensuring the safety of citizens and the good development of the festive activities.
Slight decrease in prison offenses in the locality
The Xunta Provincial de Seguridad also analyzed the data related to the prison infractions that occurred in the municipality and provided by the security forces. “Some data that show that Ponteareas followed, in 2022, the trend that was registered in the province and that shows a small number of crimes against property and injuries, and a decrease in cybercrimes in the last months of the year,” explained the deputy delegate.
Likewise, during the first quarter of 2023 there was a decrease in all prison offences, highlighting the decrease observed in cybercrime and crimes against property. However, Maica Larriba appealed for prudence in the interpretation of these figures “since the data refer only to the first three months of the year”.
