After participating in the institutional declaration in the Government Delegation on the occasion of #8M, the Government Subdelegate in A Coruña has visited the penitentiary center of Teixero to attend several of the events organized by the management and in which the inmates and the inmates of the center have participated to celebrate Women's Day. María Rivas has been accompanied by the director of the center José Ángel Vázquez.
María Rivas has headed the purple tie that inmates and inmates have formed in the center’s sports center and has attended a reading of short stories about the figure of women written by the inmate population. In addition, he has also witnessed a concert that has been held in the auditorium.
The deputy delegate of the Government congratulated both the management and the officials of the center for the “so important work that you do for society, a work that is not seen and that is fundamental because you reeducate in values with the objective of achieving full reintegration”
After her visit to the penitentiary center of Teixeiro, María Rivas traveled to the town hall of Sobrado where she held a meeting with the association of rural women “A Maristela”, an association that was born in 2000 in order to fill the associative void that existed in the town hall and to create a network among women of the municipality.
Maristela, who has almost 400 members, does an important job of welcoming Afghan families as well as accompanying them in their integration, with some of whom the subdelegate had the opportunity to speak to learn more about their situation.
María Rivas has conveyed to the members of the association her interest in knowing and making visible other realities of women different from urban ones: “Although inequality is transversal to all of us, because of our status as women, there are other elements that have an even greater impact on this inequality, as happens in rural areas”
“Today I had a special interest in coming here to know and recognize the very important work that you do, the bonds and networks that you create and that are so important in the emotional field,” said the deputy delegate, highlighting the sorority that exists among women.
The deputy delegate stressed her pride “especially on a day like today” for being part of a government that has shown with facts its commitment to equality and policies focused on women.
He recalled that Spain is the only country in Europe in which gender equality is one of the fundamental axes of the Recovery Plan . “We are aware that it is very important to provide services to the rural so that you can carry out your activities, your lives, and above all set population” explained the subdelegate who added that “when we talk about demographic challenge we think mainly of women”
The deputy delegate has also taken advantage of her visit to Sobrado to hold a working meeting with Mayor Luis Lisardo Santos .
