The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, confirmed today in the City of Ribas de Sil the footprint of the Plan of Recovery, Transformation and Resilience of the Government in the small municipalities of the province of Lugo. “We promote the development of projects aimed at the green and digital transformation of our villas, especially in rural areas, as happens with Ribas de Sil, with the main objective of improving basic services and the quality of life of its neighbors,” stressed the subdelegate who reiterated the commitment of the Government of Pedro Sánchez against depopulation and municipalities of the demographic challenge.
Isabel Rodríguez traveled this morning to this town hall in the south of the province to supervise with the mayor, Miguel Ángel Sotuela, the main initiatives financed by the Government of Spain in the municipality and, at the same time, to know their demands and needs. In this way, he noted the result of this project that consisted of the renovation and improvement of 70% of the outdoor public lighting system of the entire municipality, which had an aid of more than 190,000 euros from the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge and a contribution of 50,000 euros by the City Council. Thanks to this collaboration, 746 low-energy luminaires were installed in all the villages of the municipality, directly benefiting the people who live in these villages of the town. The intervention also contemplated the relay of scales, pipelines, protective panels and more than 6,600 meters of cable.
These funds translate into a saving of more than 45% in the consumption of electrical energy, which means a reduction in emissions of more than 21 tons of CO2 per year and 10,000 euros more for the municipal coffers. In this line, the subdelegate stressed that this type of measures are oriented to favor the passage of a low carbon economy, contributing to the sustainable and energy development of the municipalities of the province.
During the visit, Isabel Rodríguez congratulated the councilor for the achievement of this aid “which is an example of how the administrations must work hand in hand for the future of our municipalities”. “The Government of Pedro Sánchez demonstrates with deeds its sensitivity to local entities and municipalism, needing resources to provide quality basic public services,” he added.
Broadband in 1,300 homes and businesses
Along with the energy transition, the subdelegate assessed the presence of Ribas de Sil in the two calls for proposals of the UNICO Program, the Government’s plan for the digitalization of the entire territory. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation invests 22.5 million euros of the Recovery Plan to provide high-speed Internet to Lucenses living in the 67 municipalities of the province.
In the case of Ribas de Sil, the UNICO Program will allow the connection of more than 100mb to almost 100 areas of the villa without coverage. “Therefore, more than 1,300 homes and companies in Ribas de Sil will have a fundamental service on a daily basis, guaranteeing equal opportunities among the inhabitants of our villages.”
In this regard, Isabel Rodríguez reported that the Government approved the UNICO Rural Demand, a new line of the program that is also aimed at ensuring that this connectivity is 100mb at affordable rates, so that the inhabitants of these areas can hire broadband services at 35 euros per month. The plan also includes the subsidy of 100% of the costs associated with the discharge of these subscriptions up to a maximum of 600 euros per client.
