The Ministry of Culture and Sport, through the General Directorate of Books and Promotion of Reading, is launching a new edition of the programme of literary activities in Secondary Education Institutes, which will allow authors and authors to have direct contact with students.
This program is part of the Reading Promotion Plan 2021-2024 and has more than two decades of existence. In this edition, the Ministry promotes 18 activities in Galicia: 10 in centers of A Coruña; 4 meetings in centers of the province of Lugo; 1, in Ourense and 3, in the province of Pontevedra. On this occasion all the meetings will be face-to-face.
It should be noted that, of the 18 meetings, 13 will be staged by women and 5 by male authors. As for the literary genres they will cover, 9 are narrative, 4 poetry, 4 essay and 1 illustration. It is the educational centers that propose the meeting, and the Ministry, once the request is accepted, assumes the economic cost derived from it.
The aim of this initiative is to bring children closer to quality reading and, at the same time, contribute to spreading the work and creative activity of our authors. Students have the opportunity to get to know first-hand the work of narrators, poets, playwrights, illustrators or translators, and these, take the pulse of the interests of readers and newer readers.
Activities spread throughout the Spanish geography
The Ministry of Culture approved in this edition of the literary encounters program a total of 275 reading activities, which are held in Spain and also in Morocco.
The program has two different types of activities. On the one hand, the ‘Literary Encounters’, where the author, proposed by the center, talks about his work and his creative process, maintaining an open dialogue with the students. These will be the meetings that will be held in Galicia. On the other hand, ‘Por que leer a los classicos’, where the authors place the focus of the programmed activity in the work or the figure of an author whose transcendence goes beyond a specific historical period or literary current.
